The Power of Common Plants: Backyard Plants & Medicine Making

Saturday, September 24
1–5pm

This will be a fun journey into the medicinal properties, historical uses, and magical lore of three very common, yet powerful plants: Calendula, yarrow, and dandelion. This medicine grows commonly where we live, yet is sometimes overlooked in favor of rare plants of distant lands. We will discuss the power of “medicine of place,” the beauty of healing from what we can find in our own backyard! Learn how and when to safely harvest and process these plants as well as how to make medicinal preparations including tinctures, infused oils, decoctions, and infusions. Everyone will take home beautiful medicine and new skills!

Instructor: Kate Abarbanel. Kate works at Radiance Herbs & Massage on the retail floor, as well as blending and packaging the medicinal teas. She is a folk herbalist who has a deep relationship with the green world. She has studied plant medicine and magic in New Orleans, North Carolina and here in Washington, giving her a diverse and colorful perspective on plant medicine and folklore.
