Staff Holiday Favorite

Ariel, member of our body care team, has selected Honey Girl Organics as her favorite holiday gift.
"I would love to receive Honey Girl Organics skin care for a holiday gift. Their products are luxurious while still being composed of simple ingredients like honey, olive oil, bee pollen, and propolis. I add the face and eye cream to my wintertime skin care regiment or anytime I need great protection against windy blustery days. The sweet light scent of the cream is a great pick me up in winter months and it's equally brightening to envision the Hawaiian farm where the owners have kept their bees for 25 years. A treat for any face!"

Staff Holiday Favorite Gift to Give

This week's selection comes from Brandy, our body care team leader.
"I love putting together spa packages for my loved ones. I start with a relaxing bath salt blend like Aura Cacia's Tranquility, and a loofah body sponge. I add a relaxing CD, and top it off with a Big Dipper beeswax pillar. If I feel like splurging I can add a book like Don Miguel Ruiz's The Four Agreements. The perfect gift!"

Favorite Radiance Gift to receive:

"My favorite gift to receive is, hands down, a Dr Hauschka facial from our esthetician, Kerri Ward Merrill."

Staff Holiday Favorite

"My favorite thing to give and receive for the holidays is Big Dipper Beeswax candles," says Victoria, herb team member.
"I love the beautiful and yummy smelling beeswax candles from Big Dipper. They make an amazing array of vibrantly colored natural candles scented with wonderful blends of essential oils. Some of my favorite ones are the Rejuvenation - a blend of clove and orange and the Radiance - an exotic ylang ylang and tangerine twist. They also offer the no-scent-added beeswax which is one of my favorite smells. These candles make wonderful gifts to give as well as receive and they come in a variety of sizes and prices. The smallest travel tin is an affordable $5.50 and makes a great stocking stuffer as well as the votives for $3.75. There are larger travel tin sizes, pillars and tapers as well. All are beautifully packaged and locally made in Seattle."

Staff Holiday Favorite

Today's Staff Holiday Favorite comes from Lina, our herb team leader.

"One of my favorite products to receive as a gift would be any one of the the ISUN Facial Oils. Not only is the creator of ISUN a phenomenal perfumist who gives her products a deep, unique and well-balanced scent, she is also a very talented formulator who uses the highest quality oils and herbs to create a healthy, vibrant product full of vitality. She also infuses her oils with a number of gem essences which give the oils a subtle and powerful feel that is nourishing and invigorating. In particular, I love the feel of the Ruby Oil on my face and it absorbs quickly, leaving my skin feeling beautiful. There are three oils formulated for dry, normal and oily skin. You should definitely check them out. They are practical and decadent. A wonderful gift!"

Staff Holiday Favorite

Amanda Wolf, body care team member, has selected today's Holiday Favorite.

"If I were to choose an item from the store to give or receive, it would have to be the Juice Beauty To Go Kit. It's a great way to try the whole line, and is great for all skin types. The kit is $29, and totally in my budget.  I think my sister or mom would love it---I know I would!  I recently started using Juice Beauty, an organic juice-based line, and my skin is soft and happy.  It comes with some of my favorite products including the Green Apple Peel and the Nutrient Moisturizer, plus a bamboo wash cloth!"

Staff Holiday Favorite

Nikki McClure's Endeavour 2011 Wall Calendar: Twelve Unique Papercuts

Today's holiday favorite comes from Molly Breitmün, massage therapist.
"Nikki's art celebrates the simple and precious joys of life. The great thing about her gorgeous calendars are, once they have been used, you can frame the months as wall art so they get used again (and the paper was already recycled once before that!). Nikki is a local artist and donates her talent to great causes around Olympia and beyond. I like supporting her while gifting her calendars to my family and friends."
Nikki's calendars have become a staple in kitchens, offices and schools.  Each image is an original papercut, cut from a single piece of paper.  They are printed on acid-free paper using soy ink.

Nikki features strong images of everyday life, each with a powerful verb that inspires to action.  This year's verbs and phrases: Behold, Make Eye Contact, Expect, Endeavour, Praise, Ready, Choose, Source, Shelter, Accept, Exercise, Give.

Not what we say about our blessings, but how we use them, is the true measure of our thanksgiving. ~W.T. Purkiser

Staff Pick of the Week

This week's Staff Pick comes from Ariel Birks, body care buyer.

"I love tiffins! I use my tiffin every day I bring lunch to work and I haven't found a meal that can't come along inside one of these stainless steel lunch boxes. I've had combos like borscht, sour cream and piroshki; stir-fry, rice and chutney; and the good old soup and a salad with dressing in my tiffin. The stainless steel is great because it doesn't get a lingering smell that tempts you to throw it away like other plastic wares. Great for a student or anyone with an out-of-home lunch hour."

"As a single footstep will not make a path on the earth, so a single thought will not make a pathway in the mind. To make a deep physical path, we walk again and again. To make a deep mental path, we must think over and over the kind of thoughts we wish to dominate our lives."

Staff Pick of the Week

Our Staff Pick this week comes from Gayle Lueckenotte, massage reception team leader, who has chosen Seasons of the Soul herbal flower oils from Flower Essences Services.

"I first tried the Mugwort Moon Magic last winter during our severe cold spell.  Often in the evenings, my feet would get so cold that I couldn't get to sleep--even if I put on socks and used an extra blanket.  While Mugwort Moon Magic is most often used to encourage the menstrual cycle to be more regular and harmonious, it is also warming and nourishing to the circulation.  It benefits all cold, conjested areas of the body--especially extemities such as hands and feet. So, I started rubbing the oil on my feet at bedtime and then put on a pair of light-weight socks to keep the oil off the sheets. Soon, the chill was banished and I was able to sleep comfortably through the night."

*During the month of November, all Flower Essence Services products are on sale.

Working with FDA, Standard Homeopathic Company Voluntarily
Recalls Hyland’s Teething Tablets to Address Manufacturing Process

Los Angeles, October 23, 2010 – Standard Homeopathic Company, in consultation with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), is voluntarily recalling its Hyland’s Teething Tablets. The company is initiating this recall in an abundance of caution due to an FDA investigation of its manufacturing facility. Hyland’s Teething Tablets are manufactured in the United States and distributed throughout North America.
The Hyland’s Teething Tablets UPC codes included in the recall are:

1. Hyland’s Teething Tablets, 125 tablets, UPC # 3 54973 75041
2. Hyland’s Teething Tablets, 250 tablets, UPC # 3 54973 75042
3. Hyland’s Teething Tablets, 125 tablets, UPC # 3 54973 75066
4. Hyland’s Teething Tablets, 50 tablets, UPC # 3 54973 75044
5. Hyland’s Teething Tablets, 145 tablets, UPC # 3 54973 75121
6. Hyland’s Teething Tablets, Clip Strip 6x125 tablets, UPC # 3 54973 35109

Adverse events have been reported but the FDA has said that a conclusive link has not been determined. The company, in working with the FDA, has identified manufacturing processes of Teething Tablets that can be improved to ensure uniformity in dosage. As a homeopathic product, Hyland’s Teething Tablets have a wide margin of safety that protects consumers from harm.

Staff Pick of the Week

Lina Parrish, our Herb Team Leader, has selected our ceremonial grade, Japanese-certified organic AOI Matcha Premium Green Tea as her favorite product.

"Matcha is an ancient powdered tea used in tea ceremonies in Japan.  Because the young leaves are picked and lightly steamed before being dried and ground to a fine powder, Matcha retains a vibrant green color and many healthful nutrients," says Lina.  "To brew the tea one mixes the powder with hot water and then consumes the whole plant, thereby increasing antioxidant consumption.  It has a smooth, slightly sweet flavor and brews up as a bright green cup of vitality. The powder can also be added to smoothies, baked goods or other foods.  It is a delicious and healthy addition to any routine.  I highly recommend it!"

Staff Pick of the Week

This week's "Pick of the Week" is Fred Soll® Incense, selected by Judy Scott, our retail manager.

Judy says, "It is the most amazing incense I have ever used and is well worth the price. It is still hand made by Fred himself.  The amber incense is so sticky with resin that your hands will be fragrant just taking it out of the package.  I can burn a third of a stick to perfume my whole house.  My faves are the vanilla, the red sandalwood and especially the amber."

Fred Soll® uses only all-natural ingredients to produce his high-quality incense products.  Made with all-natural resin, Fred Soll® incense is handmade, hand dipped, and dried in the New Mexico Sun.

Fall Equinox

Radiance will be closing early tonight in observance of the autumnal equinox.  We will close at 6 p.m. Wednesday and will reopen Thursday at 10 a.m.

"Tonight is a night of celestial coincidences. The autumnal equinox -- the beginning of fall -- comes at 11:09 p.m. ET, and for the first time in 19 years, it comes on the same night as a full moon, the one known as the Harvest Moon.
And for good measure, if you are blessed with clear skies tonight, you will see an unusually bright star right near the moon. It's actually not a star at all; it's the planet Jupiter, at "opposition," coming closer to the earth than at any time since 1963."

International Day of Peace

The International Day of Peace, also known as the World Peace Day, occurs annually on the 21st of September. It is dedicated to peace, or specifically the absence of war, such as might be occasioned by a temporary ceasefire in a combat zone. It is observed by many nations, political groups, military groups, and peoples. The first year this holiday was celebrated was 1981.

To inaugurate the day, the "Peace Bell" is rung at UN Headquarters. The bell is cast from coins donated by children from all continents. It was given as a gift by the Diet of Japan, and is referred to as "a reminder of the human cost of war." The inscription on its side reads: "Long live absolute world peace."
