Iced Tea Recipe:

Refreshing Rooibos Tea!

Rooibos makes a delicious and healthful alternative for those hankering for traditional “iced tea” made from black tea.  Though similar in color and flavor, rooibos is caffeine free. Lighter in tannins, rooibos has a slightly sweet, slightly nutty flavor. Also known as red bush in its native South Africa, rooibos offers very similar nutritional and antioxidant benefits as green tea.

Proportions: Use about 1/2 cup rooibos leaves to every two quarts of water. Pour boiled water over the leaves in a large jar or, alternately, use unboiled water and set the jar in a sunny warm spot to make sun tea. Steep for 20 minutes [if using boiled water] or several hours [if sun tea]. You’re looking for a rich bronzy colored tea; taste a little before straining out the herb. While the tea is still warm, you can add a bit of honey, stevia, agave syrup or other natural sweetener if desired. Cool in fridge or serve over ice. Yum!

Rooibos is also great combined with a little peppermint to brighten the flavor and add cooling benefits.

Got Lower Back Pain?

Massage may help!

"Americans spend at least $50 billion each year to treat lower back pain, the second most common neurological problem in the U.S. after headaches, according to the National Institutes of Health."

"A new study in the Annals of Internal Medicine finds that massage may be an effective therapy for treating lower back pain, when compared with conventional medical treatment."  ~ from cnn.com

The study  included 401 people from age 20 to 65 who had chronic low back pain of unknown cause.  They each received an hour of either Swedish (relaxation) massage or therapeutic massage once a week.  After 10 weeks, study participants experienced less pain and better mobility with either type of massage than patients receiving usual medical care.

So if you're experiencing low back pain, consider giving massage a try.  Radiance has a number of exceptional therapists and we're open 7 days a week for massage.  Give us a call at 357-9470 to schedule an appointment.

Closing For Inventory

Yep, we're counting the candles and weighing the herbs
And removing the dust that we have disturbed.

Polishing statues, jewelry and the glass shelves
With the help of numerous Radiance elves.

Researching odd SKU's and straightening Zafus
While others enjoy their lunch on Fifth Avenue.

When all has been counted and numbers are true,
When crystals all sparkle and tea has been brewed,

We'll throw the doors open, so please don't despair.
We'll be back in business in time for Lakefair!

Radiance will be closed on Wednesday, July 13th and Thursday, July 14th, so that we can conduct inventory.

We apologize for any inconvenience that may result from our closure.

We will reopen Friday, July 15th at 10 am.

Celebrate Freedom. . . .

Freedom from chemical sunscreens!

Chemical sunscreens generally protect you from UVA or UVB ray, but not both.  In order to get broad spectrum protection, you would need to select a sunscreen with multiple chemicals that get absorbed into the skin and can potentially cause skin irritations, allergies and other health concerns.  Chemical sunscreens also degrade over time, so last year's tube won't give you the same level of protection.

Badger sunscreens protect you from both UVA and UVB rays with uncoated, non-nano Zinc Oxide. They  contain Organic Olive Oil, Jojoba Oil, Cocoa Butter and Shea Butter.  They don't contain any water so they are ultra moisturizing while they protect your skin.  As soon as you put it on, Badger sunscreen starts working---no waiting--and it stays on the skin when you sweat or play in the water.  It won't run and drip into your eyes when you sweat, yet it still allows your skin to breathe.

Badger's Sunscreens have the highest ratings for safety and effectiveness by the Environmental Working Group's Cosmetic Safety Database! You'll find them at the top of the list out of almost 2,000 sunscreens!

Come check out our selection of Badger sunscreens. It includes an SPF30 Baby Sunscreen, an SPF30 Sunscreen plus deet-free bug repellant and a lightly-scented SPF15 or 30.  Active lifestyle?  Check out the SPF30 All Season Face Stick.  While you're here, take a minute to read Badger's brochure.  It has some great information regarding SPF ratings, physical barrier vs. chemical sunscreens, nanoparticles and more.
